This is a striking vintage and original bronze and brass sculpture by Wm Ludwig Bronze. This female 'Life Mask' is an extraordinary work of art by noted Louisiana sculptor William Ludwig. The sculpture is entitled "Dana I" and signed by the artist on the bronze, with a foundry mark and mounted onto a hard wood base. The sculpture can be turned on the base so it can easily be viewed from different angles. The original paper label still affixed to the bottom of the base. This is an extraordinary and very intriguing piece for display and a great addition to any collection. You may recognize this sculpture as the logo graphic for my shop.
CONDITION: The overall condition is excellent, with some discoloration and streaks on the brass helmet. The bronze head has a nice patina with incipient green accents. The wood base shows circular marks where the bronze meets the wood from being moved around for viewing. SIZE: The sculpture with base measures 18 inches high × 7 inches wide (45.72 × 17.78 cm). The bust on it's own is 15 inches high × 6 inches wide (38.1 × 15.24 cm) Bill Ludwig graduated cum laude from Hartford Art School, where his major influences were Wolfgang Behl, Rudolph Zallinger, Clifford Jones and Paul Zimmerman. He received an MFA in sculpture from Tulane University where he studied under Jules Struppeck and Jessie Poesch. Ludwig has managed his own studio/foundry operation in the New Orleans area since 1972. He's participated in many juried and invitational shows, 29-one-man shows and 26 two-person shows and has served as visiting artist at colleges and universities in Louisiana, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. He has also served on the faculties at Loyola University and Tulane University in New Orleans.
