Child'sBrown TransferwareTeapot FOUNTAIN John Thomas HaddonStaffordshire Englandc. 1880 This is striking child's miniature toy teapot, c. 1880. Originally been part of a complete children's toy tea service, the little teapot stands 4" tall to the top of the button finial. Transfer printed in a rich chocolate brown or sepia. The pattern is called "Fountain", made by John Thomas Haddon, a pottery in the Staffordshire district in England from 1859-1885. The central image, which repeats on each side of the pot, depicts a peafowl or peacock sitting on the rim of a water fountain, surrounded by garden flowers, and a decorative lacy border trim. The detailing is impeccable considering the diminutive size of the piece. The teapot is unmarked. It is in great condition, with one tiny spoon ding on the inside rim and no chips, cracks or repairs. Light overall crazing, consistent with age and prior use. The design is elegant and striking and will make a wonderful display and a welcome addition to any collection of children's early wares or miniature doll's elegant transferware. We have also listed other whimsical early children's transferwares this week. We are always happy to combine postage on multiple purchases.
