Hi, I'm Hew. I have enjoyed collecting flow blue, polychrome and transferware since 1970. Alas, it is now necessary for me to simplify life, downsize and make a portion of my collection available to others. I have also placed several pieces in my antique shop booth. My first preference is to sell to my fellow eBayers, so please let me know ASAP if I need to retrieve this piece for you. Cheers! This is a beautiful, venerable brushstroke Flow Blue stoneware Staffordshire cup and saucer set, circa early to mid 1800s. The brush applied ("brushstroke") pattern is generally known as 'WAGON WHEEL'. The cup is 3 1/4" diameter at the rim, 1 5/8" diameter at the foot rim and 2 3/4" tall. The saucer is 5 3/4" in diameter. The beautiful cobalt blue has great flow and highlights beautifully against the white background. T is polychrome detailing in a reddish brown, and spectacular copper luster. As was often the case for early brushstroke pieces, t are no potter's or pattern marks on the back. The reason for this is simple. Early transfers had, as part of the transfer, a potter's mark, which was cut from the transfer and applied to the back of a piece as the main pattern was applied to the front. Since each piece of brushstroke was hand done, t generally was no potter's mark to transfer. This venerable set is in remarkable condition. It is free of cracks, chips, flakes, utensil marks and repairs. It has mild age-expected crazing. The polychroming and luster are wonderfully intact. The stoneware pieces exhibit a healthy ring when tapped. I have collected flow blue and polychrome since 1970, and I am currently downsizing my collection as we are trying to simplify. I have found this piece to be especially versatile and to display nicely. Shipping (basic, U.S.) for this cup and saucer set will not exceed $7.00. I always pack carefully, however, insurance is always a good idea, and I will add this unless requested not to. Items can be combined for further savings on shipping.
