WOW! From Grandpa's bottle collection. EXCELLENT CONDITION! No chips, cracks, breaks etc. I am not a dealer or collector, but online research on the Buchan Portobello Pottery plant in Scotland makes me think this bottle is rare. Appears hand painted and hand glazed. Notice the unusual bottle neck top...with ridges. The ginger bottles or beer bottles I found online did not have ridges. is what I found out about this company and their trademarks... which makes me feel this bottle is really OLD:"A W Buchan Pottery of Portobello, near Edinburgh, Scotland . Originally founded in 1770 it was initially operated by W and C Smith who are credited with producing the first "bone china" in the region. In 1830 the pottery was sold and a succession of owners ensued until about 1867 when A W Buchan took over. Several years later Buchan was joined by a partner J F Murray of Caledonian Pottery. After Murray sold out in 1877, the firm became known simply as A W Buchan & Co. Its early trade mark was an impressed star : later it became a thistle with the name "Buchan"." Because t is no thistle trademark on this bottle I am thinking this is a pre-1877 bottle? If anyone has any documented information about this bottle, please email me. I don't want to mis-lead any buyers interested in this bottle. It's a beautiful specimen and would bring a lot of joy read more
