Offered for your consideration is a rare and spectacular Buck model 531 Bucklock 1 lockblade pocketknife. This knife was part of a series that Buck initiated in the late 1980's. These knives were originally designed with an innovative locking system from custom maker Scott Sawby. The locks had some design issues early on and Buck recalled of the knives that had been made and scrapped the line until 1991. Buck re-released them in 1991 with a redesigned midlock, although the line was short-lived and was dropped just a couple years later. The line consisted of the 531, 532, 535, and the 539 fillet knife. The 532 has been brought back occasionally as a limited edition, but the 531 has never been made again. These knives represented a premium-quality product line and the fit & finish level of these knives are beyond what you'll see on any standard Buck production folder. These knives were just exceptionally well-made and remain favorites among many advanced Buck collectors. In fact, Chuck Buck lists the 532 as his favorite Buck design. They're tough to find (except maybe the 532) and most casual Buck enthusiasts don't even know they exist. This knife is even more unique and tougher to find than the standard 531 knives. Buck made a series of 7 knives to commemorate some of the famous Civil War battles. This is the Brandy Station knife and is numbered "99 of 100". The knife bears a Buck date mark of 1991, although the artwork is dated 1992. The knife has never been used, carried, or sharpened and remains in near perfect condition with just the lightest touch of storage wear. The knife has not been cleaned or polished and is really about as close to perfect as one could hope to find. It comes in its original piano-hinged storage case with all paperwork including its certificate of authenticity which bears the matching serail number. This is a beautiful Buck and in my opinion, this series represents the finest production folders Buck ever made. These knives have the look, feel, fit, and finish of a fine custom and are simply the finest in Buck folder quality. The blade profile is unique and features a shallow, squared choil. Blade operation is silky-smooth over the entire arc. Besides the gorgeous look of the knife, the feel of the blade travel is the first thing that really stands out. It feels more like a premium-quality custom than a factory knife. The blade was gold etched and the detail is exceptional. It was tough to capture in the photos, but the etch is bold and vibrant, striking a dramatic contrast against the deeply mirrored blade finish. The bolster were also polished to a deeply mirrored finish and the front bolsters were beveled on the front edge. The liners feature intricate filework on both the top and bottom. The handle inlays are of bias-cut impregnated Birch. The scales were fitted to perfection and tightly pinned. The scales were deeply finished and show great depth to compliment their silky-smooth feel. This is a fairly large folder that measures 4-3/4" closed and 8-1/8" fully opened. If you're a Buck collector or enthusiast, this is a very tough model to locate and ownership opportunities are few and far between. With a total run of 100 pieces, this particular model is extremely difficult to find as many collectors assembled full sets and are not likely to part with an individual knife.
