Buck Leonard, Negro League First Baseman, Hall of Fame Walter “Buck” Leonard was born in 1907 in North Carolina and died in 1997, in North Carolina. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972. He was a great first baseman, digging throws out of the dirt, and seizing bunts. He had an accurate and powerful throwing arm. He was captain of the Homestead Grays team until they closed in 1950.This 6 x 2.75 inch check, drawn on Planters Bank, was written in the amount of $75.00to the Rocky Mount Awning & Tent Co.,Inc.The date was 3-4-1987.The check is in excellent condition.
