Seen is a rare and most unusual statue with a custom that died out in the 60's. The Cultural Revolution in communist China puts an end to this tradition but it existed among the overseas Chinese. Unfortunately this practice too died out not long after it was wiped out of China. In the past, people suffering from sickness that never seemed cured after consulting many doctors, inadvertantly turned to thier beliefs. To the Chinese, consulting Taoist mediums to determine if any "debt" owned in their pervious life as human, had to be paid. The medium will then go into trance to determined his/her status and debt. Statue of Ti Shen will then commissioned with his/her surname of his previous life is then written on the back of the statue. This allows the sickness be "transferred" to the statue !
