I have had the luck of finding a few of these bowls smaller and larger and all four sided with a pinstripe. I found some in Alabama and two in New York. I am keeping the smaller bowls I found in the Alabama area for my personal collection. This is my last large bowl to offer. The pieces that I retrieved from Buffalo, New York came from the Buffalo China Company. Years ago they sold a building full of china from many hotels and restaurants with many railroad patterns. Most all of the pieces were overstock (unused pieces and samples and mistakes) and were made for many orders around the country. Remember all of those Katy Blue Bonnet pieces and all of those Pennsy Broadway seconds?. The CGW Floridian pieces are rare and quite scarce. They were supposedly ordered only twice. Said to have been ordered in 1925 and in 1926 ONLY. The china was produced for ''The Legionairre''of which was first Christened in December 1924. By 1925 the train was in full swing. It lasted up until about 1931 - 32. Downgraded to become the Minessottan. Another odd pattern of china was used on that train. Supposedly, Floridian was used on the CGW - SANTA FE joint project ''The Missionary'' and ''The Scout'' (the older Scout) and then disgarded. Both of those trains were operated by CGW and SANTA FE with HARVEY SERVICE provided. Very few pieces of Floridian - Radcliffe were ever marked CGW in the interwined initials. Most of the pieces the railroad was supposed to have used were unmarked and used in service. All of the pieces were supplied by Albert - Pick and a few pieces through Pick - Barth. A marked piece is a nice find. The interwined CGW initialed logo was produced from an old sports crest used in the teens -twenties and tweeked a little for a fraternal look for ''The Legionnaire'' of which was dedicated to ''The American Legion''
is a 4 sided bowl in Near Mint Condition - No Chips No Cracks. The logo (initialed) is crisp and well defined. The maker is Buffalo China but the information on bottom of bowl is smeared. This bowl was found in New York and came from Buffalo China. The colors are good but a little runny in spots. The bowl is 1925 via Pick (first order) and very rare. The size of the bowl is 6 1/2 x 2 1/2. The bowl is four sided and is properly referred to as a salad bowl. All railroads ordered these at one time and they are very hard to find. The initialed crest was only used on the china. Rumors of use of the crest on glassware in 1925 persist, however no glass has survived for reference. Notation: This pattern has been bought and sold for many years as CGW. Some have referred to a picture on a CGW Employee 1925 Magazine that seems to show this pattern (possibly two different patterns) in use on ''The Legionnaire'' That particular EE magazine is extremely rare today and sought after today by dining car enthusiasts. This is a wonderful piece in the pattern and will look great in your dining car china and glass and silver plate collection. THIS IS MY LAST BOWL, DON'T LET IT GET AWAY! Footnote: I sold one of these bowls to a CGW collector last year for over 4 HUNDRED DOLLARS. This piece is display ready and some individual out t will be happyto add it to his or her collection. I welcome any additionalinformation. Please feel free to email me!!
