is a rare 8 ¼" Buffalo Pottery Emerald Deldare Ware Plate from the Dr. Syntax series, dated 1911. The title of this plate is "Misfortune at Tulip Hall" and it includes a short verse: "A shelf gave way, another follow'd, Ma'am Tulip screm'd, the gard'ner hallooed, while Syntax join'd the Gen'ral Bawling and soon upon the ground was sprawling." The hand colored transfer (against the khaki background color of the plate) shows Dr. Syntax on the floor reaching for flower pots. Note the puppy dog at Dr. Syntax's feet. The plate has the Emerald tulip border and is marked on the back: "1911, Buffalo Pottery, Emeral Deldare Ware Underglaze" with the Buffalo Mark. It is artist-signed by 'E. Dowman' on the right side of the scene, to the right of the man scratching his head. This plate is in excellent condition: no chips, cracks, lines, etc. The transfer is crisp and the colors strong. Deldare Ware was made by Buffalo Pottery for several years at the beginning of the 20 th Century. The EMERALD Deldare was only made in 1911. Larkin Soap owned Buffalo Pottery at the time, and the Deldare Ware was used as 'give-aways' with the purchase of certain amounts of soap. The Emerald wares have become extremely rare and desirable. Buyer prepays, plus postage.
