Buffalo Pottery George Washington Jug
Sold For:
Buffalo Pottery George Washington Jug I'm offering from my parent's estate a Buffalo Pottery George Washington jug. (Buffalo Pottery referred to their short, squat pitchers as jugs). On one side is old* George sitting on his horse and on the other is his home of Mt. Vernon . T is a full portrait of Washington under the spout and his signature G. Washington on the spout. It's a beautiful cobalt blue on a white body with hand applied gold gilding around the spout, the handle and the base It is in excellent condition. T are no chips, cracks or repairs and very little if any crazing or staining. T is some wear to the gilding. It measures 7 ¼ " tall at the handle and 7 ½ " in diameter from handle to spout. Marked as shown: Semi-Vitreous Buffalo Pottery and the number 1346 hand written in gold with what looks like L and 2 dots also in gold. The series of historical pitcher and jugs was produced from 1905 to 1909. This one is not dated. According to "The Book of Buffalo Pottery" by the Altmans "it was offered only in the Larkin catalog of 1905, but was also made in subsequent years". Please keep in mind this is a fragile item, I highly recommend that you purchase the additional insurance for it. THANKS FOR LOOKING & HAPPY BIDDING!!!! Please add me to you sellers watch list, I will have many more Buffalo items coming soon. *This piece was a favorite of Dads' he always referred to it as "old George"
