This is an original, 1942, brass, Baldwin Locomotive Works builders plate from the DM&IR (Duluth Missabe & Iron Range Railway.)
This plate came from locomotive #712, a 2-10-4, class E-4, Texas type locomotive built in 1942.
The DM&IR was a railroad operating from 1874 till 2004 in Minnesota and Wisconsin. In 2004 it was acquired by Canadian National Railway. The DM&IR name was given to it when 2 railways merged in 1938. The Duluth and Iron Range that originally started in 1874, and the Duluth Missabe and Northern.
This plate has a small crack in it that is only noticeable from the back, possibly from someone trying to straighten it. It came from a curved boiler, but appears pretty straight now. T are marks around the 2 holes in it w the bolts held it to the boiler.
This plate is 9 inches in diameter and weighs just under 5 pounds.
Also included with this plate is an 8x10 black and white photo of locomotive #711 of the DM&IR, the same type of locomotive as this plate came from.
Thank you for looking and good luck bidding.
