BUILT FOCKE WULF FW189A Russia 1944 1/48 SCALE Description This unusual reconnaissance aircraft was developed and manufactured by Focke Wulf in the late 1930's. The Allies called it the "Flying Eye". The FW 189 A series proved to possess just the right attributes of performance, ability to use unpaved airstrips, outstanding maneuverability, basic simplicity, toughness, ability to carry useful armament and other operational equipment. It was used on the Russian Front right up to the end of the war. The cockpit was first airbrushed in Testors Enamel RLM #66 (Black-Gray). A small amount of white paint was added to match the paint color to the scale of the model. Smaller and more detailed parts were each hand painted to bring out all of the detail possible in them. Some parts have been either upgraded or scratch built to help bring the cockpit to life. Some of these items including Photo-etched seat belts and harnesses, gauges, wiring, metal rudder pedals and many more have been upgraded. The canopy and all other clear parts were dipped into Future Acrylic Wax to bring out all the shine and clarity possible and to help protect it. After the canopy was dry and secured in place it was carefully masked off with the help of a custom cut mask to help protect the canopy from any over spray during airbrushing.
