Original Nishimura Goun (1877 - 1938) Japanese Woodblock print Between 1922 and 1926 this series of 18 prints was printed. Leading artists from the 1920's were commissioned to design the prints. Each artist interpreted a scene or character from a Chikamitsu work for his design. The result was a stunning series of 18 prints released to high acclaim in the early to mid 1920's. Yamagishi Kazue carved the blocks for this historic series and the expert printer Nishimura Kumakichi printed the prints from Yamagashi's blocks. This series is recognized as one of the great shin-hanga series of the 20th century. Gold mica flecked on the background and hand applied white detail on the kimono - a nice touch and sign of a high quality 20th century print.
