Late Victorian burr inlaid burr walnut tea caddy in VERY fine condition. Measures approximately 9âe x 5âe x 4 ½âe. O ne TINY slither of replaced veneer at the bottom front left corner that has been done VERY well and is only seen upon close examination. All other veneer in excellent condition and features the highly desirable swirling burr grain. As per usual with the boxes that I offer the box has not been devalued by stripping back and refinishing and boasts a fine mellow patina. Banded inlay comprising of mahogany set between Kingwood carefully selected and positioned to create an almost herringbone effect. The edges of the top and all four verticals feature edging that complements the colour of the banding and serves to âe~frameâe(tm) the caddy form. Top closes square and true. Original hinges and lock with a working key supplied. The lid interior is lined with solid mahogany panels and veneer (always more practical and attractive than paper lining). ORIGINAL lids complete with the matching original turned wooded knobs. Nigh on all of the original foil lining is still present to both tea sections and the lid undersides and given the clean condition of the foil and indeed the general condition of the caddy it is obvious that it has had little to no use. Any antique box in such condition and degree of original features must represent a sound investment piece and one that would sit well in any collection.
