Genuine and correctly named WW1 British War Medal and Victory Medal pair [full entitlement] to:R.M.A. 14584 GR. S. E. UNDERWOOD Sidney Ernest Underwood was born in Wellingborough in 1897. He enlisted into the Royal Marine Artillery in April 1915 and served in the Queen Elizabeth class battleship HMS MALAYA from January 1916 until August 1919, including action in the Battle of Jutland, where MALAYA was in the thick of the fighting as the 5th Battle Squadron took on the German High Seas Fleet. She was hit seven times by enemy 12 inch shells and suffered casualties of 63 killed and 33 wounded. Underwood would probably have served in one of the 15 inch gun turrets. In 1921 Underwood joined the new 'pride' of the Royal Navy; HMS HOOD and was serving in her during HOOD's Empire Cruise of 1922-23.
