An extremely rare and early English Red Stoneware Coffee Pot from the Staffordshire Region, dating to c. 1760. Although this coffee pot is not marked, it is very similar to the earliest of Josiah Wedgwood's wares. The coffee pot is about 8 ¼" tall (top of the finial on the lid) and the handle to spout distance is about 8". The baluster form body is decorated in relief with leaves and a basket of flowers over a curved band or banner of flowers and leaves; the lid is decorated with similar type relief designs and it has an acorn finial. At the base of the spout, t is a molded woman's head with a very classical look. The coffee pot has several collection stickers on the bottom and under the lid. For a very delicate and utilitarian piece of mid-18th Century ceramics, this coffee pot is in very fine condition (or better). The pot has no major faults: the only 'damage' on the body of the pot is some very minor roughness (flicking) on the left side of the spout; t is a thin and very faint line on the lid the runs up the side and across the top. This line is very hard to see and it does not threaten the integrity of the lid. The semi-circular cut-out in the flange of the lid (the edge that fits into the body of the pot) is, I believe, part of the pot's design (the faint line in the lid begins just above the top of that arch). Please note that the flash photos heighten the 'gloss' on the surface of the teapot; it is in reality a soft, matte glaze. Affordable English Ceramics do not come much earlier than this coffee pot. Buyer prepays, plus postage.
