I offer this very scarce early American c.1875 double Snail tilting ink stand (or ink well, inkwell) with a cast iron base with a place to rest pens on at the top . The clear glass ink bottles simply rotate or revolve down when you want to access the ink, quite clever. Documented in "Treasury of American Bottles" by W. Ketchum, 1973 edition, page 135. Unknown American maker. Condition: Overall quite good, but not perfect. No missing part to the cast iron base. The cast iron base seems to have been repainted at one time. One of the bottles has a small hole on one side as a result of having been tightened too much at one time. The hole is covered by the little metal washer and does not show when on display. Only one bottle has the washers, the other is without them. Considering how rare the double ink well is, this is really minor. I first bought this about 15 years ago and it only had one bottle. I hunted for a long time before I found another one with a second bottle. This is the result of the search.... not perfect, but still darn good! That is how rare these are....the clever design was a bottle killer. I still have the other cast iron base, all rusted up if it is of interest to someone and another bottle, but in much worse condition. Dimensions are 4 1/4" tall (11cm) by 7 1/2" wide (19.3cm) & 5 1/8" deep (13cm); heavy weight read more
