c.1880 NICOLE FRERES SWISS MUSIC BOX A nice, later Nicole in fine condition, featuring: Rosewood case measuring 21" long x 11" wide x 7" high (when closed) Mother-of-pearl and brass stringing inlay on lid Ornate gilded lifting handles Ivory key escutcheon Fine-toothed comb, no broken or replaced teeth, stamped "Nicole Freres" Double-spring motor for long playing tme Original tune card Original Nicole Freres London sales agent label Made in Switzerland, the Serial #51329 dates this piece to about 1880, when the firm moved to England but retained production in their home country. I have some letters of provenance from the family that purchased this in England in 1970 and it remained in their house until recently. I have had the case republished and it looks as new. This music box plays exceptionally well, with no damper squeaks, and has excellent tonal qualities and volume. The songs are very well arranged. Please if you would like to see more of my collection of antique music boxes, phonographs, clocks, etc. - all are in remarkable condition and many are for sale as well.
