Offered for auction is this very rare art glass vase/bowl, made by Bohemian maker, Moser, around 1885. The vase/bowl sits in a metallic holder and t are also four metallic rings that dangle from the top (see picture) The vase is 4 inches (10 cm) tall and 8 1/4 inches (21 cm) wide. The aqua-colored vase is superbly enameled with Moser's well-known fern motif. The vase is in excellent condition - no chips, cracks or repairs (I have run my fingertips over the critical areas that are prone to chipping, such as, the tooled-top-rim, the areas w the rings touch the glass, etc, and have not found any chips anyplace). The mouth-blown vase has a polished pontil (see picture on 4th row). Like most 19th century Moser objects, the vase is unsigned - but it is guaranteed to have been made by Moser. This vase has a tooled rim, and according to Gary Baldwin, tooled rims like this vase's, have only been found on Moser-decorated articles (refer to Plate 14, page 85 of Baldwin's book, 'Moser Artistic Glass Edition Two' - shown in last row picture , for your convenience). In addition, a pair of similar-decor 8"-tall vases with metallic dangling rings and similar holders, is shown on Plate 18, page 86 of Baldwin's book (shown in last row picture Though unsigned, t is no doubt in my mind that the vase presented was made by Moser. What makes this vase rare? According to Baldwin, for Moser objects, "mounted fern-leaf decorated vases are not commonly found" (reference: Plate 18, page 86 of Baldwin's book). This is a NO RESERVE auction. Thanks for looking.
