I'm selling a dozen items for a sixty something female. These items belonged to her ancestors and are being sold with NO RESERVE as everything MUST GO! Please check out the other items and save on shipping if you buy more.
You are bidding on a circa 1900 old glass stein that has an etched level line with "1/2 L" etched after it (which is a continental measure--not our American pint, etc). I would say it's NOT pressed glass since I don't see any line in the glass. My guess is it's either blown or mold blown but I am no expert and leave the decision to you. T are three large bee hive shapes with a diamond pattern decorating the sides. T are two bulging rings around circumference of the base which are cut to enliven them and perhaps make it look lighter in appearance. The stein lid looks to be pewter or zin (tin and zinc). To my eye, it has a very fine finish not normally associated with pewter. The lid interior is plated with a very shiny material. Lid has an acorn finial above a bas relief band with cartouches dividing four scenes. The 4 scenes depict two gnomes doing various activities. One scene shows one gnome crawling the other filling a pitcher from a keg, second shows them swinging from the trees, third shows them seated flanking a fire heating a tea kettle, fourth shows them with a shovel. I apologize for not having the correct lens to take close up photos. The casting is good but it doesn't come across in the photos. The closer I move my camera the worse it gets. The thumbpress is a 3-dimensional figure of a man waving a top hat and holding a mug. My guess is the stein is German or Dutch but you make your own decision. SIZE: 8.75" tall, 5.5" wide including handle, base is 4" in diameter. CONDITION: no chips, no cracks, no repairs.
