This is an auction for a superbly carved large piece of Ching Hai Jade. The Jade is Imperial carving from the early 1950s. Items produced during this time were very limited and controlled by the Communist government. The tortise is the Crème de la Crème of carving. Beautifully balanced from a chosen piece of red veined Jade and wonderfully done! The finished piece is polished to perfection. The coloring and carving are gorgeous. This is a hard to find and collectible item. In Chinese mythology, the tortoise is one of four spiritually endowed creatures. The tortoise is sacred to China and represents longevity, strength, and endurance. Its spirituality is said the upper shell has markings corresponding to the heavens and is yang. Its lower shell has lines answering to the earth and is yin. T is no rough metrics in the Jade - no damages - no chips - absolutely an amazing piece! This is real Jade - not reconstituted or dyed stone. T have been more modern carvings from lesser quality Ching Hai jade and not done by Master carvers. Many fakes have reached auction sites which are inferior dyed stone...this is the real thing!! As my clients know - I only sell the real thing and far below market price. Not really fond of reserve auctions, but with finer items of higher quality, t was no choice. Expect much better than pictures!! The camera
