The Farmer and his FamilyA New Edition By The Rev. Richard Knill New York: American Tract Society, 150 Nassau-Street.� c 1848. Faded cloth hardcover with gilt lettering on spine, 4" x 6", 80 pp., clean, tight and unmarked, owner signature pencilled on rear free endpage, cover cloth faded with a few small soiled spots. Richard Knill (1787-1857), English dissenter, missionary with the London Missionary Society.� Rev. Knill began his ministry in Madras, but after suffering illness he returned to England.� His next assignment was in St. Petersburg, where he labored, with government approval, among the Finns, Germans, Poles, and others not belonging to the Orthodox Church.� He labored in St. Petersburg from 1820 to 1833, when, upon a return to England to raise funds, he was persuaded to stay in the home country as an advocate for missionary work.� He served as the pastor for two successive churches and wrote several books.� Knill relates this as a true account of a man and his family that he personally knew.� The farmer was born during the reign of George II. and lived until the reign of Queen Victoria.� His life is told as an example of Christian fidelity.� Please see the pics for contents.
