Welcome and thank you for visiting Sweet Home Chicago Antiques! This sale is for a rare circa 1880 brides basket bowl frame. It was manufactured in New York by the Stix & L'Allemand Company, and is appropriately stamped with the company name and logo on the underside of the base.I included a photo of the frame with a brides bowl in it, so you can see how it looks. The bowl is Not included with the frame in this auction, and isn't for sale at this time.Stix & L'Allemand were only in business for a few short years, and their pieces are considered scarce on the antiques market today. The frame is stylized with a graceful floral and oak cluster design, and features twin tassels mounted on each side of the handle. These are the same tassels we find on Victorian tieback curtains, and the castings were beautifully executed. The craftsmanship is remarkable. I don't think I've ever seen this presented in this manner on antique silver before. Each piece would have been cast separately from the body of the frame, and applied just prior to the silver plating process. Even after all this time, all of the castings remain intact, with nothing broken or missing. I would love to have seen the drawings for this frame - especially the base and legs.
