This is a rare triple cherub figural cruet castor centerpiece manufactured by Simpson Hall Miller and Company.
I would estimate the period of manufacture to be at the beginning of the Art Nouveau period, or the early 1880s. Three charming chubby cherubs are stationed at each of the wells for the cruet inserts. The castings are excellent, and the features are still crisp after all this time. As you can see, t are reflections from the outdoors on the silverplating and the glass. The stand is in overall excellent condition. The table rests on three stepped plinth feet, and the face of the table features a satin finish with floral engraving. Only normal and expected wear to the plating is noted, and one crack to an insert ring, which is shown in one of the photographs. The crack does not go all the way through the metal. The ring is intact. This would be a very minor fix should the new owner desire. The delightful cherub figurals have no damage at all, and the base does sit level on a flat surface. I doubt that the cruet inserts are original to this set. They are not in the finest condition, and the new owner may want to shop around for a better set. The vinegar cruet has a rim chip, and I'm not convinced that the stopper is original. The stopper does have some roughness. The pepper and mustard cruets appear to be in good condition. While I haven't attempted to clean the cruets, I don't note any glass sickness, and tfore do think they would clean up nicely with some white vinegar. The vinegar cruet is 6.00 inches tall and the mustard pot is 3.50 inches tall. These two pieces match. The pepper shaker is 5.00 inches tall. The pattern is slightly different, but not glaringly so. Overall the cherub stand is approximately 6.00 inches in diameter. It stands 10.00 inches tall, and is appropriately stamped, "Simpson Hall Miller & Co., Treble Plate". Simpson Hall Miller and Company was organized in 1866 in Wallingford, Connecticut. Their stock was purchased by the International Silver Company in 1898. While Simpson Hall Miller made some interesting Art Nouveau pieces, we don't often find the cherubs which were manufactured by them. This is a great opportunity to add this rare stand to your collection and to charm your Holiday guests with also! Feel free to email any questions or requests, but do try to do so before the final hours of the auction so that I have time to answer back.
