**STUNNING **C1900 VICTORIAN GOLD FILLED ORNATE LOCKET BROOCH This is a truly GORGEOUS and highly collectable Victorian 12K Gold Filled Memento Brooch .. T is a picture of a BEAUTIFUL Victorian woman and she reminds me of an Actress from the Silent Movies in her appearance... These brooches are enjoying a fabulous resurgence at the moment..and it looks stunning on ! Please note that in the photos t appear to be darkened areas on the side of the brooch but it is just reflection. HISTORY It is Circa 1900 by design and styling... It is not stamped for gold content but the outer surface tests positive for 12 karat gold, and the front is gold filled and the backing to the photo is gilt.. and prior to 1910 gold was not required to be hallmarked. . Antique gold filled is considered to be equivalent to todays low karat gold and wears the same. DESCRIPTION & SIZING It has a gorgeous scrollwork surrounding the photo. and I was informed the photo is a Daguerreotype but I am unsure as I have not removed the back for fear of damage , and it appears to have a celluloid protection incorporated on the front of the photo. . The woman in the photo is absolutely STUNNING ! She looks like a silent movie actress.. and this will surely get noticed. ! It measures 1 1/4" in size .. The back of the brooch can be seen and has an old C clasp which functions well... The back protecting the photo or it could be part of the photos back is gilt and has a little discoloration due to age, but this is not visible when being worn , and may simply polish up nicely and i will leave this to the new owner. It would look fantastic on a shirt collar or a lapel or a large antique doll ! . It weighs approx 4 grams which further adds to its appeal . Please note that the pictures do not show the beautiful antique gold color ... it looks rather brassy .. but it is that lovely antique yellow buttery hue.. unlike the brassy yellow gold of today. it was so difficult to photograph .. but I can assure you this is much prettier in person. Please note that while I do try to describe the items to the very best of my ability, all my items are either antique or vintage , so tfore are not brand new.
