VINTAGE AMERICAN ARTS AND CRAFTS POTTERY VASE CARVED LOTUS LEAF DECORATION ARTIST INITIALED: J J S AND DATED: 1911 I SHIP WORLDWIDE Being offered in this sale is a vintage arts and crafts art pottery vase that dates to 1911. It is marked on the underside of the base with the inscribed intials JJS together with the date it was made. It has been suggested that this is a student piece, perhaps from a technical school. It was clearly inspired by the work being produced at the time by companies such as Grueby and Walley. It measures 4 1/2" tall and is 7 1/2" in diameter. I will guarantee that this is a period piece dating to 1911 and not a piece made by one the contemporary companies copying the work of Grueby. The woman I bought it from claims it was owned by Whoopi Goldberg. The condition is very good. T is a 1" shallow vertical chips along the edge of one of the carved leaves (see next to last image) and a couple of smaller glaze flakes along the edge on another leaf, otherwise, t are no other crack, hairlines or repairs. This is a nice piece American Arts and Crafts pottery. Please feel free to email with any questions. I always guarantee everything that I sell to be as described.
