These rugs have a particular place in furnishing. Western industy and invention probably could not have designed them or and eqivalent and if it could would not have dared. Every color is a climax and their crudity gives a breath and massing which are almost available to complete and set off decors where the wood, walls and furniture are dark. There are various types with geometric or highly stylized Herati orientation in dark but luminous vegetable dyes or a central medallion amongst the herati field. On a base fabric of wool they have a deep glowing pile made of good wool knotted in medium to coarse turkish knots. The structure may be thin and light or compact and medium heavy.
