They are located in three different regions • Lurestan (Western Iran) • Kermanshah [Bakhtaran](Western Iran) • Kohkiluyeh (Southwestern Iran) These regions are all a part of the Zagros Mountains. The Bakhtiari are a related people. In the spring, the Luri(Lori) live in black goat-hair tents. During the hot summer, they use leaves and branches for cover because they provide much cooler shelter. In the winter, they move into double ended houses known as zemga. These houses are half buried in the slope of a hill. The are built with boulders and 2/3 of the area is covered by a roof of branches and sod. Luri(Lori) women, if not covered (veiled), can be seen wearing very significant jewelry that shows their wealth and status. The men are either shepherds or farmers who migrate according to the season. The children for the most part do not go to school due to a lack of teachers. While the people of Lori are Persian, weavers create traditional rugs in designs and styles similar to those created by the Kurds of Iraq, Iran, and Turkey. Still living as they did hundreds of years ago, the Lori tribes still weave their rugs with the same handmade tools that were used generations ago. Pertaining to the physical characteristics of their rugs and carpets, the Luri(Lori) tribes have nomadic and geometric patterns. Their pieces are very durable and long-lasting. In addition, these carpets are of excellent quality. They are usually mid-sized ranging from 4x6 to 8x10 feet. Dark reds, blues, and oranges are the predominate colors used from vegetable dyes for the rugs and carpets from Luri(Lori). They are flat-woven with a soft wool in which the warp of the foundation is mostly cotton while the weft is made of wool which creates the design. Also, the fringes of these pieces tend to be braided. Weavers in Lurestan create flat-woven rugs. In summation, Luri(Lori) pieces are delightfully simplistic rewarding one's home with a peaceful nature. The Persian rug is a tradition that has survived for a period of over 2500 years. Each Persian rug is a new flower blossoming from one of the biggest branches of an ancient and colorful yet damaged tree which is the Persian culture . Persian people are very tradition oriented and this characteristic can be seen in the way they make their rugs . Each village or city in Iran has an ancient and traditional rug pattern that has been maintained in that region for centuries and sometimes millenniums. The distinct designs of each city are particular to that city alone and although famous designs have been imitated elsewhere in the country a few times , they have never been duplicated. Iran is also the place where many other styles of rugs are made, such as Turkish, Caucasian, Armenian, Kazak, Afghanistan & India. The Persian rug is a big chapter in the book of Iran's culture because it visually shows the biggest obsessions in Persian culture, which are the beauty of nature, literature, and true love. These are what make the Persian rug on of the most prestigious things to be placed in any home. Persian Bazaar - Rug's World HeadquarterKPSI: ( knot per Square inch ) the number of knots per linear inch along the warp and the weft tell us what is the KPSI in one rug. You multiply both numbers on the warp and the weft from back of the carpet. For example 10 knots along the warp and 12 knots along the weft would give a KPSI of 120. RAJ is the number of knots on warp or weft per 7 linear centimeter. Persian rugs usually count with RAJ instead of KPSI. But for your convenience we use KPSI here. keep in ...
