C1936 PAINTING OF HORSES IN WATER SIGNED LEBDUSKA NoRE Description This listing is for a framed circa 1936 American painting by the German-American artist Lawrence Lebduska. The painting in it's frame measures 23 3/4 by 27 3/4 inches or 60.5 by 70.5 cm. The painting itself measures 16 by 20 inches or 40.5 by 51 cm. The painting features 5 horses wading in a stream. The horses are depicted in shades orange set against a blue background of water. In the foreground are clusters of flowers on the edge of the stream. Behind the horses are rocks breaking the water. The painting is oil on stretched canvas. The painting is housed in a natural wooden frame with a gold border around the painting. It is signed on the lower right "L. LEDBDUSKA 36". This for Lawrence Lebduska (1894-1966) who is one of the most interesting self-taught American artists of the 20th Century. Born in Baltimore to German parents, Lebduska achieved a great deal of fame in the 1930s, especially when his work was widely exhibited including at a notable one-man show at the Contemporary Gallery in 1936. He was most known for painting murals and creating fairy-tale inspired works, most prominently featuring bright colored animals, especially horses.
