A superb piece of very early French faience jar (or a potpourri ?) with beautiful details and stunning hand painted decorations. The jar is supported by three ulysses . T are mythological paintings / designs all around the jar . T is a mark / signature behind every ulysses figure (3 total) ( please enlarge the pictures to view ): the first one is a factory mark , the second one says " E. Balon SL ", the third one says " Ulysse Blois ". ca.1860-1880 ; It measures (19cm) 7-1/2 inches High x (16cm) 6-1/2 inches Wide, (48cm) 19 inches Circumference (wrap-around distance). This piece is in good condition for its very old age. It does have a few minor small spots of glaze loss; The lid has repaired damage as pictured above; One odysseus figure is missing one arm (does NOT affect structure whatsoever) but as you can see in the pictures it's hardly noticeable.
