Lot of 5 images from one family. The first image is a 6th plate ambrotype and the others are all 9th plate tintypes. I bought this group of images from an individual who purchased them from a man who handled the Dallas, Texas family estate sale in which these photographs were found. The original seller stated that the family surname was Guthrie and that the family was from Arkansas. The image of the Confederate volunteer with his revolver is a 6th plate ambrotype that was orally identified as Francis Guthrie. This image is housed in a complete case. The case does not latch completely, but I'm sure it is the original case. The condition overall on this one is very good. The other images are 9th plate tintypes and they are housed in a rare double ninth plate thermoplastic cased called "Children Playing with Toys." This case is shown on p. 91 of "Nineteenth Century Photographic Cases and Wall Frames" by Paul K. Berg. At the time this book was published in 2003, this cased was valued at $225.00. All of these have a cover glass except for the child at bottom right. This case has a tiny chip at lower left corner, but is in overall very good condition. Note that the image at top right appears to be the same man as in the 6th plate ambrotype.....only older. There are only a few Confederate soldiers from Arkansas with the Guthrie surname, read more
