Marked: Magic - Patent Pending - Manfd. by Magic Light Co. - Chicago Measures 39" tall x 16" at widest point. As far as I can tell, it is missing the globe and chimney and the smoke bell. What is here appears to be in good condition. Here is a link to a photo of an ad for this light: COLL4_125.JPG (JPEG Image, 1000 × 1343 pixels) - Scaled (47%) If the link does not work, just copy and paste: http://c590298.r98./COLL4_125.JPG Well....done a little research(was asked about the fuel used). Still not POSITIVE about the fuel type, but I think that it may be carbide/acetylene. If this is correct, I would assume that a small amount of carbide would be placed in the bottom and the top would be filled with water. Hence, "Makes its own gas" in the ad. Also, through research, I found that acetylene lighting became available in the late 1890's. Makes sense to me. If so, this would be a very early(ca.1898-99)acetylene light and either way, this model is evidently very rare. Any other knowledge would be appreciated.
