I believe this to be a pre-1763 tomahawk, traded by the Spanish in Florida, Georgia, Alabama or Mississippi (all part of Florida back then) to Indians in the region. The above date is the year the British took over Florida from the Spanish. The hawk comes from (according to what I have been told) the collection of a prominent anthropologist whose studies and excavations were in that area. Anecdotal as this information is, the outstanding quality gives me every confidence it is true. His collection was said to be from the 1920's-1930's. I am trying to find out his name, but I may never know it. It has characteristics which attest to its being of Spanish origin. The hand-forged domed nail at the top--and the AMAZING markings are, to my knowledge, consistent with the attribution. As you can tell, the handle is later, probably attached by the collector in the early 1900's. The only words I can think to add, are: Superb, Extremely Rare. GUARANTEED TO BE 18th CENTURY. Size: Length of head from bit to back of eye is 8 1/4 inches. The edge is 3 3/4 inches. IMPORTANT: If you would like to use Paypal, please let me know and wait for my reply BEFORE doing so.
