Rare cab of two of the great ladies of the theater - Lily Langtry & Sara Bernhardt. Size is 6 1/2 x 4 1/4". What makes this card special is the original newspaper clippings glued to the back of the card that describes the event. Image shows Lily on left looking over at Sara. Sara looks directly at the camera. She's wearing a huge coat with fur collar & cuffs. Lily is in a nice dress with interesting trim. Card imprinted on bottom with: Mrs. Langtry and Sara Bernhardt. Copyright 1887 by Napoleon Sarony of N.Y. Written on back in pencil are their names. Stamped on one edge of back of card is: From Charles L. Ritzmann of N.Y. The newspaper article has an image that shows a different pose. It appears to start at top left above the engraving, continues on right side & ends below the engraving. Wonderful story about the sitting. The card is rough. There are spots, stains, soiling, edge wear, missing corners & split corners. Two 1 inch creases from top edge near center going down 1".Mrs. Langtry was an actress & producer who had a number of affairs with royalty. Sara Bernhardt had a long career on the stage & acted in films. Considered one of the finest actresses in the world.
