The Cabinet of Creamers ( or cream / milk jugs ) illustrates and describes creamers from a multitude of factories and although numerous pottery examples are included, the majority are porcelain (including some sauce boats) and most are within the period 1765 to 1845. The informative introduction pages discusses the use of these jugs and explains the debate over their use for either cream or for milk. Then the attribution to factories is explained giving recent research and a suggested further classification by letters.There then follows the 1,116 illustrations of the cream jugs in colour. Each entry gives the factory where known, date of manufacture and a description of the moulding and pattern. Any factory marks, pattern numbers etc. are noted and known pattern numbers are quoted if known from other examples such as teapots.Cross references are given to the Anthology of Teapots and the Compendium of cups.
