Cabinet Card of Ontario California dated January 6, 1888 - Wesner PhotographerA Boudoir Cabinet Card, with mount measuring approx 5" by 8" and photo approx 4 ½" by 7 ¼," produced by Wesner of San Bernardino, and is dated on back of card January 6, 1888. Photo was taken from the top of Chaffey Agricultural College looking north towards the mountains, with the trees that line Euclid Avenue on the right.On back of photo is a light red stamp that has been covered by writing but states Wesner's Photographic Car, Southern California P.O. Address San Bernardino. This is likely the backmark of H.B. Wesner, who had a studio in San Bernardino but also took pictures all over the county.Ontario was established in 1882 by the Chaffey brothers who were from Canada, and was developed as a planned community. By 1887, when this photo was taken, there was a land boom going on in the town. The individual who had this photo taken appeared to be one of those involved in purchasing land, as he described to a friend on the back of the photo the bountiful citrus crops and the rapid housing/commercial growth that was taking place."This view is from the top of the college looking north - San Antonio Canyon on the left and Old Baldy in and around partly behind the Sierra Nevada range.
