Antique Cabinet Card - BROTHER & SISTER IN FINE CLOTHES - Columbus, Ohio - c. 1880s. The card is medium-weight stock, cream-colored on both sides, with rounded corners and beveled gilt edges - measures 4x6.5". The bottom front has the photographer's credits, as does the back, which also has a logo of a cherub operating a camera: "Glass - S. W. Corner Town and High Sts. - Columbus, O[hio]". Undated - probably 1880s. The image is a full-figure portrait of two children, a boy and a girl - almost certainly brother and sister, judging by their strong resermblance. Thepose in an elaborate studio setting and both wear quite fine cloths. The girl's dress has a splendid lace collar, which under a hand lens appears to be tatted. The dress has a dropped waist, a row of metal buttons, a pleated skirt, side draping, ribbons, and lace cuffs. Her long hair haing down her back, and the front is styled with bangs. She and the boy both wear high-buttoned shoed. The boy has a fine sack-style suit and a ribbon tie. The focus and contrast are exceptionally good, so fine details can be seen of the children, their garments, and the studio props, which include a small metal statue of a goatherd.CONDITION: Near Fine.
