I have NEVER seen one on ebay, in fact just finding a picture of one anyw in the web is a real challenge. They are IMPOSSIBLE TO GET END OF STORY . This is the symbol of the true American Hero. No other single garment says tough yet humble like this coat and the men who proudly wear it. And this one has been proudly worn and shows every day of it yet is still ruggedly presentable, even more so actually. This one has a full quilted, water proof liner that snaps out and is weatd like a costume designer could only dream about. Also it probably weights close to 20 lbs! The name of the man who wore it and "509 NYFD" is perminently written on the right, inside lapel. (see pictures) About Cairns & Brother Company- Clifton, New Jersey
Cairns had its beginnings with the invention of the first American fire helmet by a volunteer firefighter in New York City in 1836. Named the "New Yorker", this style of helmet, though undergoing many changes, is still being produced today. Shortly tafter, two brothers named Cairns came up with a way to mount an identification badge to these helmets and renamed the business Cairns & Brother when they later took over the helmet business. When they expanded into coats and other firefighting gear the quality and inovation of the Cairns products were unmatched.Over the years, Cairns introduced many other items for their firefighter customers including by the 1990's an innovative line of firesuits, thermal imaging cameras, and SCBA equipment in addition to their growing line of helmets. Although they were widely admired at the time for their innovations in design, the owners of Cairns soon discovered that manufacturing, distributing, and supporting such a broad range of products was not the most practical course for them. Cairns Protective Clothing is now part of the Globe family of brands, having been acquired by Globe Manufacturing Company in 1994.
