Cairns N5A New Yorker leather fire helmet. Size is large. It has the yellow impact cap so it is lighter then the newer helmets. The inside label is missing but it was made in the 80's. This is an original issued FDNY helmet. The owners name and FDNY are written on the inside but the writing is now quite worn. The original final is a little tweaked and dented on the end but will still hold a shield just fine.
The leather is in pretty good shape. The rear brim has been repaired w it had a couple inches of wire showing. The repairs were done with epoxy and are really not noticeable. T is also noticeable cracking on the rear brim and around the outside of the brim. None of these cracks are through the leather and this helmet is still very solid structurally. The helmet was just repainted with 3 coats of gloss black over 2 coats of primer. The paint is not perfect but looks good overall.
It has the original quick release chinstrap that has been cleaned.
The bourkes are quite scratched but still serve their purpose.
The earflaps were slit on both sides so the ratchet would stick outside instead of being under them. Besides that, the liner is in good condition. I removed the liner, cleaned it, the suspension and ratchet pad then reinstalled them.
The helmet shows moderate wear which is to be expected since it served most of its life in the FDNY but it still has plenty of life in it.
At the buyers request, I can include or install 8 lime/yellow reflective tets at no extra cost. Be sure to ask for it when you send payment.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Buyer to pay actual shipping costs. Be sure to check out my other auctions.
