Distinctively styled, barkedge koa wood bowl. The shape is inspired by the traditional Hawaiian umeke or calabash (although these weren't natural edge). Like one style of calabash, this is somewhat of a closed, hemispheric form which flows from a rounded base, widens at the center, and then tapers towards the opening. It's 5" wide at the opening, 5" high at the tallest edge, and 3/16" thick. It was turned to include spalted sapwood, which creates a contrast to the darker heart. The bowl has a buffed oil and lacquer finish. Although t is a starting price on the bowl, it's well under the $180+ which is the l east you'd pay a bowl of similar style, size and quality in any of the good Hawai'i galleries (or any other, for that matter). If you're not happy with it, I'll gladly refund your purchase price, less shipping and handling . If you're interested in other fine turnings, particularly translucent Norfolk pine, please visit my ebay store. Feel free to email me with any questions. Mahalo. KO2
