is an Interesting and, NICE Specimen composed of CALCITE, PYRITE and BARITE Crystals with, WAD! -(old term for Manganese mineral) T are some very Nice Calcite Crystals through the center of the Specimen. The one side of which (back) has a single, tabular Barite Crystal, nestled in with the Calcites. The Barite is (can be seen) in the center of the Close up / Main photo. Overall, the specimen is in Good shape. T is some rubbing minor dings. The "Wad" - Dark brownish material / mineral, is embedded with the Pyrite's and also, with what appear to be small Ankerite's as well. It is somewhat "friable." That is, it should be handled with care as it can crumble with rough handling. It should hold up fine in a display cabinet though. I will take extra care in packing and shipping it. It is from the 3800 Level, Homestake Gold Mine, Lead, Lawrence County, Black Hills, South Dakota, collected by a HS Geologist in the 1950s - 60s. Over the last several years, I have been very fortunate to purchase the entire, private Homestake Gold Mine collection of mineral specimens, of a former Homestake Geologist / mineral collector, who worked for Homestake, in Lead, SD in the 1950s & 60s. The collection consisted of many minerals, including duplicates. More Importantly, this Geologist took great care to properly store, box and label the specimens. Information and Notes stored with the specimens provided many with very specific information as to the "Level, Ledge, Crosscut and MORE" the specimen(s) was found / collected! This is Not all that common even for modern day collected specimens. But from this now, Closed, Famous and near Legendary Gold Mine of America -- It's INCREDABLE! It measures a larger, 6.5 x 4.4 x 2.5 cm overall.
