19 (48 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head, very large and deep blue paperweight eyes, thick eyeliner, richly painted dark lashes, brush-stroked and multi-feathered brows, accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over original cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent, the costume is totally original albeit silk of jacket and lower skirt is very worn, red silk on bonnet worn. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 8 (head, and artist checkmarks) Jumeau Medaille d Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1888. Value Points: superb all-original costume, the bebe has original wig, pate, body, body finish, earrings, silk couturiere costume from the Ernestine Jumeau studios, original matching bonnet, pleated muslin under-ruffle, Jumeau chemise, pantalettes, Jumeau maroon stockings, silk maroon shoes with gold stamp Bebe Jumeau . Included with the doll is a Times-Picayune newspaper clipping of 1951 in which young Callie Bergen is shown tenderly holding her antique family doll at the New Orleans Nord Doll Show for children where she was awarded First Place. Forty years later Callie Bergen (McGinnis) presented the doll at the 1991 UFDC Convention in New Orleans where it was awarded another First Place blue ribbon. The doll has remained in that original-owner family for more than a century until being presented today.
