Recollections of a winter campaign in India in 1857-58....With drawings on stone (lithographs) from the authors designs by Capt Oliver Jones, RN... Published by Saunders and Otley.....London...1859.....First edition....9.3/3" x 61/4"....xvi/213pp.... Illustrated with 15 fine tinted lithographs and 2 full page lithographed maps. A very good copy with wide margins....Only a few light foxing marks... Memoirs of a British Naval Officer during the Indian Mutiny....Jones was attached to the 53rd Regiment of Foot and Peel's naval Brigade from HMS Shannon. His narration covers the campaign to relieve Lucknow and the final siege and assault. Jones joined the Royal Navy in 1826 at the tender age of thirteen and was promoted lieutenant in 1839....In 1854/5 he was Commander of the new sail and steam wooden batteship HMS Hannibal during the Crimean war.....In 1860 he commanded the paddle steamer HMS Furious during the Second China war. Fine binding (by Atkinsons, about 20 years ago)....Half green calf, gilt decorated spine, two red leather title labels, blind ruling to both marbled boards, silk head and tailbands....In fine clean sound condition...
