ELECTRIC CHAIR This Electric Chair was manufactured by the Campbell ’s Electric Company of Lynn Massachusetts. I have had some difficulty obtaining information on this chair or others like it. The chair is believed to have been manufactured in the early 1900’s. It was purchased by my Great-Great Grandfather, who was a doctor in rural New Hampshire . The chair’s intended purpose was electro shock therapy. It is in good condition for the age but missing a couple of items. I was told that there were neon tubes that should be on both sides of the chair, but those have never been found. One of the balls that you place your hand on has pushed through the top of the ball because the tack weld at the end of the thread as let go. The ball can be placed correctly on the chair as the picture shows, a simple spot weld would correct the issue. There are no other parts or pieces with this device. What you see is what you get. I came into possession of this chair approximately 18 years ago when my great grandmother passed away. It was rescued from the back of a truck heading to the town dump. It was being disposed of because it made family members feel uncomfortable. I'm guessing because of its intended purpose. My father recognized what it was and felt it was a perfect fit for me and my sense of humor. I have enjoyed this chair and the story that goes along with it, not to mention the conversations it has inspired by all who see it. I have not been told of any horror stories associated with this chair. However, that could be a closely guarded family secret, that’s for you to decide. This chair is made of wood and leather. The balls appear to be nickle plating or stainless steal - unsure. I have spoken with a few people who are familiar with this type of item. It is such a unique item and is rarely seen. Therefore, they are unwilling to give an appraisal price other than it's worth thousands. The true test is to see what others are willing to pay through this auction. For the right price I guess I am willing to let it go to a new home. Chair is available for local pick-up or the purchaser can arrange for Shipping. The chair weighs approximately 48lbs, and the dimensions are as follows. L = 29” X W = 26”, X H = 44” Picture added 5/24/11 in order to see the condition of the hand piece that has pushed through. The ball still threads on to the post as you see in the other pictures .
