Lot 1 of a specialized collection of cloth shoulder titles to the Essex Scottish, the Kent Regiment and the Essex and Kent Scottish. PLEASE NOTE! In this lot you are bidding on the item in the first scan only! Other scans are included to show the difference in the varieties I am currently offering for sale on eBay. The Essex Scottish like the Calgary Highlanders (Please see my other listings on eBay), did not wear regimental pattern shoulder titles until the fall of 1942 after the Dieppe Raid. Prior to this wearing the WWI type distinguishing formation patches. Lot 1 is a first pattern title with white and red lettering woven through purplish/blue melton and black cloth backing. In WWII the Essex Scottish mobilized as a component of the 4th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Canadian Division and was badly mauled on the August 19th 1942 'Raid in Strength" on the French coastal town of Dieppe. Later the regiment returned to Normandy with the 2nd Division taking part in the severe fighting that was to mark the Campaigns under overall command of 1st Canadian Army until the defeat of the Nazi Forces. In 1954 the regiment amalgamated with the Kent Regiment becoming the Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment.
