Lot 8 of a highly specialized collection of badges to the WWII Canadian Forestry Corps. The badges in this collection are the actual badges illustrated in Book 1 of Brooker’s ‘Badges of the Canadian Army’ available from Service Publications, and represent the largest collection of Canadian Forestry Corps badges ever assembled. PLEASE NOTE! In this lot you are bidding on the item in the first scan only! Other scans are included to show the difference in the varieties I am currently offering for sale on eBay. Lot 8 is one of three British made officers ‘overseas’ pattern cap badges. Lot 8 is a gilding metal OSD pattern with fully struck up reverse (Mazeas S.20, Brooker 118-11-216) Gaunt type lugs, maker marked Ludlow) Please note this badge is missing a lug. Due to its huge lumber industry Canada was quickly able to provide highly skilled lumbermen for service in both WWI and WWII. In WWI by the time of the Armistice there were 60 Forestry Companies working in France and 41 in Great Britain. Depending on the area from which they were drawn in Canada Forestry companies specialized in cutting different types of forests including soft and hard woods. Some Companies in France cutting Spruce exclusively for airplane production. In addition to lumber production other companies worked cutting stone in quarries and constructing air fields. read more
