Beautiful Candlewick Cake plate with separating Pedestal This beautiful cake plate is from the estate of a distant cousin. She started housekeeping in the late 1930's, who knows, maybe this was a wedding gift. The reason for my explanation of its origins is the actual set up of the cake plate, and pedestal. It came this way (to me) from her estate. On the bottom of the plate, on the underside of the plate, t is a deppression in the center of the glass, under the circle, visible on the top of the plate. The bottom piece, the pedestal fits into the deppression of the plate. T is a raised circle around the underside of the plate that blocks the pedastal from moving around. It is very hard to describe, except that it reminds me of a teacup and saucer, except in reverse. The plate has many small bubbles in it, from when it was made. I have taken pics of the two largest of these, You have to super size the pics to see them. You can feel the some of the bubbles on the underside. Please take note the plate has several scuffs, maybe from utensils? I could not photograph these. The plate has to be held up to a bright light or sun light to see the scuff marks. The plate surface of the plate is 91/2" top to bottom, and between the two handles the surface measures 9 14/16". The pedestal has no scuff marks on it at all. It does have some bubbles from when it was made. The top of the base (w the plate sits) is 2 3/4" around the base with the design on it is 51/2" in diameter. The base pedestal is 21/4" tall. The plate and base both have circular "lines" from being made. This glass is truly intresting to look at and is a great vintage piece. This piece is really pretty, and would make a great addition to your collection. I don't know if the set came like this, or if my relative put it this way. I do not claim to be any sort of expert on candlewick. I have done research on candlewick in general, and the glass pieces themselves fit all the criteria for candlewick.
