Auction is for an early 1900s oak cane display case/cabinet made by the Oscar Onken Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. This company was originally called the Shop of the Crafter/Oscar Onken Company and was known for making Mission and Arts & Crafts furniture. I believe that the Shop of the Crafter closed around 1915 and that the Oscar Onken Company remained in business until 1931. The case has the curved/bow lid opening with ball & stick dividers to hold the canes upright. The bottom of the case is "tiered" with six steps and peg holes in order to hold the canes in place. This case has a full height of 47" (including 15" height of top portion), a width of 24", and a depth of 18". The case has 2 brass handles and sits on 4 wheels for easy movability. I've tried to show any condition issues in the photos and will provide honest but novice appraisal below. Top portion: On the glass is a label identifying case as made by the Oscar Onken Co of Cincinnati Ohio. Some wood trim is missing inside the lid; one of two hinges is broken off but top still opens and closes well; right side glass has a 3 3/4" crack; lid is missing one hook & eye closure. Wood dividers have some broken pieces. Bottom portion: Front is held on with screws so the front can be removed. It also has hinges so the door can swing open to display other items - these hinges read more
