This beautifully sculptured piece from Arizona's famous Meteor Crater weighs in at 1766 gms. This specimen has an extraordinarily sculpted shape that is the Devil/Diablo itself. It looks like the Devil is some positions and ferocious creatures in others. The stone has a hole in it the size of a golf ball and that hole has eroded an eye hole that simple makes the piece. This meteorite is a great artistic piece that not only represents Barringer Creator very nicely it also stands on it own representing the other name give the crater, "Diablo" is covered with regmaglypts giving it a great natural shape that would be a wonderful addition to any collectors shelf. Like all meteorites these are becoming harder to acquire so don't miss out on this chance to get a specimen from the by gone days when you could collect Canyon Diablo yourself. This meteorite is stable and quite spectacular in its naturally sculpted shape. I am open to offers on this specimen so feel free to send in your best reasonable offer and get a Canyon Diablo before it is so rare that the prices match its rarity. I have many other Canyon Diablo meteorite specimens and I have etched slices that show the interior WidmanStatten pattern so please check out my

Canyon Diablo Meteorites New Finds / Old Stuff I was at a rock show recently when a kindly old man stopped by our booth, having been guided there by other vendors who knew we had meteorites. These specimens were collected many decades ago and have sat in a bucket since then. The original gentleman fell on hard times and needing money, put up the meteorites as collateral with a friend so he could pay bills. He has since passed away. The meteorites were given to me to sell for this gentleman whose only desire was to help a friend. I am trying to get as much to repay the charity to a man who himself needs it now. Bid High! Be sure to add me to your favorites list !Formation of the crater The crater was created about 50,000 years ago during the Pleistocene epoch when the local climate on the Colorado Plateau was much cooler and damper. At the time, the area was an open grassland dotted with woodlands inhabited by woolly mammoths and giant ground sloths. It was probably not inhabited by humans; the earliest confirmed record of human habitation in the Americas dates from long after this impact. The object that excavated the crater was a nickel-iron meteorite about 50 meters (54 yards) across, which impacted the plain at a speed of several kilometers per second. The speed of the impact has been a subject of some debate. Modeling initially suggested that the meteorite struck at a speed of up to 20 kilometers per second (45,000 mph), but more recent research suggests the impact was substantially slower, at 12.8 kilometers per second (28,600 mph). It is believed that about half of the impactor’s 300,000 metric tons (330,000 short tons) bulk was vaporized during its descent, before it hit the ground. The impactor itself was mostly vaporized; very little of the meteorite remained within the pit that it had excavated. [Wikipedia, January 19, 2011, Meteor Crater]Check out this link.
