In the 1930s, noted Washington state photographer Charles Fitzpatrickdocumented the places and people of Pacific County's Long BeachPeninsula, better known then as North Beach. His work comprises an outstanding portrait of life in this remote place just north of the mouth of the Columbia River and Cape Disappointment, w Lewis and Clark achieved their goal of reaching the Pacific Ocean. Fitzpatrick's work was never mass produced and many of the real photo postcards in this collection represent rare survivors of an innocent lost time in the West Coast's greatest oyster-growing region. It was never my intention to get into collecting historical postcards and photos, but many have come to me over the years as I've published several historical books. I've now digitized this collection and am selling the originals. Many of these are by Fitzpatrick, while others are exact copies made by him of much earlier photos that are no longer extant. Some of these RPPCs have black paper scraps on their backs from w they were once mounted in a photo album, but t is no damage to the postcard or image.Located in Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Park at Cape Disappointment, Washington, Cape Disappointment Lighthouse is more than 150 years old and is one of the great historical landmarks on the West Coast.
